JAMB 2027: 6 Things UTME and Direct Entry Candidates Must Verify Before Registration

JAMB has advised UTME and Direct Entry candidates to verify their NIN

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised prospective candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) to carefully verify their personal information with the National Identification Number (NIN) database before creating their JAMB profiles.

The Board gave the advice in a recent edition of its “JAMB Explained” series published on its official social media platform.

According to JAMB, candidates should ensure that the information attached to their NIN record is accurate because the personal details used during JAMB profile creation are obtained directly from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

“JAMB does not create or edit your details. They come directly from your NIN record with NIMC,” the Board stated.

Six things candidates should verify

JAMB highlighted six important areas candidates should check before proceeding with profile creation and registration:

1. Full name

Candidates should confirm that their names are correctly spelt and arranged on their NIN record. Any error should be addressed before beginning the JAMB registration process.

2. Date of birth

Prospective candidates should carefully check their date of birth and ensure it corresponds with their correct personal records.

3. Other personal information

Candidates are advised to review their other personal details linked to their NIN and identify any discrepancies before registration.

4. NIN information

The information candidates intend to use for JAMB registration should correspond with the records maintained by NIMC.

5. Correct errors through the appropriate process

JAMB warned candidates not to assume that obtaining an affidavit would automatically lead to the correction of information on the Board's platform.

The Board explained that candidates with incorrect information should follow the appropriate NIMC process to correct their records.

6. Verify everything before creating a JAMB profile

Candidates should complete the verification and correction process before generating their JAMB profile and proceeding with UTME or Direct Entry registration.

JAMB's platform also provides a Correction of Data service for certain categories of information, including names, date of birth, state/local government and gender, subject to applicable procedures and fees.

JAMB urges candidates to act early

The Board has repeatedly encouraged prospective candidates to ensure that their personal information matches their NIMC records before registration.

Since candidates are required to use their NIN to generate a JAMB profile code before proceeding with UTME or Direct Entry registration, errors in their records could create difficulties during the admission process.
